If you’re a long-haul truck driver, the majority of your time is spent in a cab alone. You might think your chance of catching COVID-19 is low (and it is compared to many other jobs), but there are still risks to be aware of and actions you can take to reduce your risk. Read on to learn about the latest guidance for truckers published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
CDC COVID-19 Guidelines for Truck Drivers
Keep Your Distance.
Limit contact with others and maintain a distance of at least 6 feet when interaction is necessary.
Wash hands or use hand sanitizer regularly.
Any time you leave the cab, whether it’s to fuel up or have lunch, be sure to wash your hands or use hand sanitizer before getting back in your truck.
Arrange “No Contact” pick-ups and deliveries.
Call your pick-up and drop-off locations ahead of arrival and see if they can facilitate a “No Contact” transaction.
Wear a mask.
Whenever you leave the truck, the CDC recommends wearing a cloth face mask to protect yourself and others.
Sanitize surfaces.
Bring diluted bleach or alcohol cleaning products with you and regularly sanitize touchpoints in your truck, like the door handle, steering wheel, seat belt, shifter, radio, controls, etc.
